Let us talk about these two profiles. There is very much difference between these two job profiles.

Data analysts, as the word suggests this profile is almost spending there 80 percent of the time with the data. While Business Analysts spend their time with the business.

Again another question what type of work is done and which tools are most popular amount these two job profiles.

Here I will answer as per my experience, Maybe it will differ from person to person.

The data analyst will work on Data Engineering and Data visualization. While Business Analyst will work with Data Visualization, some basic of data Engineering task and the most important task for Business Analyst is Data communication, which means convey the message to the business how efficient this data is for there business and the key performance indicators which helps customer or Business to increase its revenue.

The Data Analyst uses Programing languages like python, Scala, Splunk, etc, SQL, HiveQl for DataBase Management, and BI tools like tableau and Power BI. The Business analyst is using SQL,hiveQl, Athena query for basic data filter and transformation, and then any of the Business intelligence tools.

Role and Task of Business Analyst vary from company to company , maybe in some industry, the only task is Data communication and Planning.
